What a sweetheart. Little (or should I say big!) Tyson didn't want to sleep for us, but we still got some pretty sweet photos. Congrats to the family. He is beautiful and was so much fun to shoot!

We trekked up the fall canyon to shoot these photos for the Harrison family. Aren't they a beautiful bunch? The setting was just gorgeous too. Now I want to buy me a cabin up there!

I love this one. It captures everyone cheering "YAY!" at cute little Jace, to get him to smile at me!

It was a little bit of a challenge shooting on an inclined canyon road, but I think we worked around it and you can't even tell!

What a great family! Everyone was so sweet, upbeat, and accommodating - especially for having to be dressed, at the park, and ready to go at 8:00 a.m.! Now that's hard with kids. What troopers!

We took these over the July 4th weekend, and I loved that they dressed in patriotic colors. I've never shot a group this big (25 people!), and it presented several challenges all its own. But I loved every minute of it with all those sweet kids. Aren't they darling? Enjoy your best-photo sneak peek, Fullmer family!

Family photos are the most challenging for me.

We did just a quickie shoot with Baylor. This kid is the cutest. I've photographed him 3 times now, and I've had fun every time (I'll be posting the previous shoots soon). I am always amazed at how hard it is to take photos at this age, but how fun it is to make them giggle. The payoff is way worth it!

We started off kind of rough...

but it was nothing that a fuzzy bear, football, and some silliness couldn't fix. :)

I love the "boyness" of this picture.

I never knew how breathtaking these flowers were until I got up really close with my lens. Wow! I also discovered some dewdrops on them { and we all know how fond I am of dew! }. I love how my camera magnifies things I can't see on my own...actually, the other day at a football game I stood there with my camera plastered to my face the whole time, because I could see the players and the game much better that way. Call me a dork! Talon, my husband, loved teasing me about it. Good thing I like to be teased. :)

I wanted to share this critically important video - put together by one of the world's premier photographers, James Nachtwey - about a new form of tuberculosis spreading around the world. It's called eXtreme Drug Resistant TuBerculosis. There is little we can do to stop it unless we act asap.

It kills me to see people living in conditions like this. Where is worldwide compassion and sacrifice, to give up our ridiculously indulgent lifestyles and instead provide ways for people like this to live a better life? Even if we don't care about our fellow man, at the very least we ought to prevent XDR-TB from becoming a worldwide pandemic and spreading to us.

It is times like this that I stop and think: Am I using my abilities for good in this world? What is my purpose and vision? What more can I do?

My mom has always cultivated the most beautiful and incredible garden. I can't believe that she keeps it so amazing even now, after a few hard years and all of us no longer there to help her. She always complains that it looks terrible and is such a mess, but I think that's just because she remembers what it used to be like when we were all kids and spent hours weeding it every Saturday morning. we took a week off and visited oregon. it was wonderful - and so green! i had a heyday with my camera while we were there. :)

i am having a rough time perfecting my workflow right now -- when i save my files from RAW to jpeg in photoshop, the colors change big-time and become very distorted. i must be doing something wrong, but i don't know what it is yet. then, blogger completely drains the color out of my photos when i upload them! it's frustrating. i'm also struggling with file sizes and getting images put up that are crisp. sighhh. please be patient with me!

The Huntsman family

What a good looking family! The Huntsmans were awesome to shoot. I was Chelsea's TA when she was a brand spankin' new freshman at the Y and she was so cute {I tried not to pick favorites, but you know...}. Chelsea called me up to do family photos the night before her brother went into the MTC. I was so excited to see her again, and meet her whole wonderful family. I'd already talked on the phone with her mom about 3x over the course of the years, so it was great to finally meet!

Many thanks to the Huntsmans for a great shoot and for thinking of me. Even more thanks for their wonderful patience with me while my computer was in the shop for 3 weeks! Hope you guys like these. :)

I know these two are a lot alike, but I just love the super-genuine smile in the one below.
That captures the Heather I know.

Wow. All I can really say is wow. I guess I never truly REALIZED how much I love this photography thing until I had this shoot. It was so much fun, and I really feel like I have a built-in passion for taking pictures. It is exhilarating and liberating all at the same time.

Heather was a GREAT model! She was willing to do all kind of crazy things for me {wink, wink!}. We had a few crazy teenagers yell at us and suspicious cars drive by, but in the end we ended up meeting a very kind man who lives out in the country and let us raid his beautiful, robin's egg blue, '68 Ford truck. Thanks a million, Heather {both times, haha!}.

I need advice from my blog readers: Do you like the original white background, or do you like the new black background? Scroll down and compare how black vs. white affects your photo viewing experience. :) Then, please comment and tell me what you think!

Personally, I can't decide if I like how black makes the photo colors stand out, or if I like white better because it makes the website look cleaner and simpler.

time and time again, i have read other photographers' complaints that the colors in their photos seem incessantly warped on blogger or on different computers. i now know exactly what they are talking about! for one thing, blogger sucks all the color OUT of my photos when i post them. yuck! then, my photos appear completely different based on what computer i am using. i am sitting here at work, balking at my blog, because all my photos are so FULL of bright orange and green that they look ridiculous!

apparently this has something to do with the color settings on your computer's monitor? hmm!

This was incredible. The trail to the falls dips down into a valley between two massive walls of red rock. As the sun lowered in the sky and we hiked out, the illuminated red walls reflected in the creek water at just the right angle. Wow!
